    Description

Formed in 1881, the Oregon and Transcontinental Company assumed a significant role in Northern Pacific Railroad (NPR) affairs for the next decade by building branch lines. On September 15, 1883, the first regularly scheduled NPR transcontinental passenger train to Portland arrived by way of the Oregon Railway & Navigation’s (OR&N) tracks from Wallula, Washington, about two hundred miles up the Columbia River.
In 1884, Thomas Brassey (1836-1918) was a member of the British Parliament who held the post of Parliamentary and Financial Secretary to the Admiralty, a position on the Board of Admiralty.
