Advanced Three Stooges Collectors will immediately recognize this as a remarkable and incredibly desirable extreme rarity. The only other example of this card I have personally seen was accompanied by its original Columbia Studios envelope (ideally postmarked August 27, 1937) confirming its exact year of issue by Columbia Studios and makes it all the better snd more amazing. Having looked for special early Three Stooges items for decades, this is one of the best and easily one of the rarest of all Three Stooges “card” or fan club items. Another interesting note about this piece: On this super high quality thick-stock premium Larry is identified by his very short-lived nickname “Fuzzy”.
Below is the auction description and link address to the other example I have seen (I purchased this very other example at auction at Hake’s Americana in 2013 where at that time it sold for 25). It is the ONLY example Hake’s Americana has ever seen (per their description) Below is a cut-and-paste of the Hake’s auction description and a link to the original auction as well:
“Original Columbia Studios envelope contains vintage 5x7" photo fan card depicting The Three Stooges as they appeared in their many Columbia shorts as well as in their real-life dapper-looking identities. Card has facsimile signatures for each Stooge, along w/their real names - "Curly (Jerome Howard), Moe (Moe Howard" and "Fuzzy (Larry Fine)." Larry's "Fuzzy" moniker was an early nickname that was quickly dropped, likely one of the main reasons these cards are as rare as they are. Card is lightly aged and shows some minor corner tip wear. VF. Envelope has typed and inked mailing address and bears Aug. 27, 1937 postmark. Envelope is marked "Photograph - Do Not Bend" and part of postmark advertises Columbia's "Lost Horizon" film. Moderate handling wear w/some scattered staining. VG. Rare and first we've offered in our 47 years.”
