The Motor Maids' Treasurer
Martha Smith of South Vienna, Ohio, became treasurer of the
Motor Maids in July 1954, by a unanimous vote. Her first Offi-
cers meeting was this last January in Louisville, Ky., at the home
of Rosemary and Edgar Morgan. They burned a lot of midnight
oil working and Martha really enjoyed the close association of
working with Rosemary, the new Secretary, Butch Widman,
President Dot and Ex-Treasurer, Gladys Payne.
When Mary Williams, Southern Ohio State Director, moved
to Florida in 1950, Martha was appointed to the State Director-
ship. It was really a hard spot to try and fill as Mary left a splendid
record of Motor Maid events. Her events, Charity Newsies and
"Maids in the Woods,” were highlights on the Motor Maid calen-
dar. Martha has done a wonderful job with these events also. The
"Maids in the Woods" is one of the best attended events and the
Maids all hope the new State Director, Mary Cutright will carry
on the tradition.
Mary Williams signed Martha up for the Motor Maids and
Martha has enjoyed many years of being a Motor Maid and has
travelled lots of miles building up fine motorcycle memories. She
has won several trophies. Her pet, of course, is the first one
won in 1951 at a Field Meet held by Motor Maid Mabel Aston.
The Smiths'are a Motor Maid family, even though there are no
girls, Motor Maid events have priority over all others. The two
Smith boys are motorcycle enthusiasts—each owning his own
motor. Hugh Jr., 16 years old, has a collection of toy motorcycles
and Charles Gerald, they call him C.G., has a collection of minia-
ture horses. Both boys have saddle horses which they enjoy very
much.
Husband Hugh receives all the credit and thanks from Martha
for teaching her to ride and he really takes an interest in Motor
Maid Activities. His hobby is taking 16mm moving pictures of
the Motor Maids and their events.
Martha and the rest of the Smiths are ready for a big year in
1955.
