THE BORSCHT
CIRCUIT
Once the plaground of many famous stars, Monticello, N.Y.
has been turned into a motorcycle racers paradise.

New York State on Old Route 17 (today known as
Broadway) lies the town of Monticello; the home of
the Monticello M.C. That old Highway 17 is a con-
stant reminder to me of this town’s famous history.
Not too many years ago the trip up here from New
York City took between four and six hours. That
was in the days when show business greats like Al
Jolson, Eddie Cantor and Jack Benny lived, worked s

then and still is the state’s center for resort hotel
and bungalow colonies. Today the trip from the city
via the Thruway and the Quickway takes only one
and a half hours. The main top entertainer here
today is Jerry Lewis.

wages his battles on a dirt track with his bike as
the weapon of aggression. The outcome of this
battle is fun for the rider and thrills and excite-

battle grounds in some of the darndest vehicles
vehicles ever seen from...
