RIDER PROFILES
No. 21 Robert L. Winters
Robert Winters of Ft. Smith, Ark., his
birthplace, is a motorcycle dealer and
intends to remain in the business sell
ing bikes.
Starting to ride at an early age Bob
participated in every type of Sportsman
event through the years. In 1960 he
took up professional competition and
feels his decision was influenced by the
number of racers he knew. lie enjoys
all kinds of racing but his hobbies also
include guns and cars.
Twenty-seven year old Bob is married
to the former Billie Ann King and they
have a son Robert Mark.
No. 24x Charles W. Jones
A native of California, Charles Jones
was born in Pasadena but now lives in
Arcadia.
Chuck started riding in 1961 and
turned to professional competition in
1964. His reason, “1 just like motor-
cycles.” Flat track riding is his choice
in competition but he also devotes some
time to boating.
Jones at 26 is single, works as a
motorcycle partsman and would some
day like to have his own shop.
No. 28U Elmer Morra
For relaxation Keeter goes the fishing
route. At present he is single and has
hopes of having his own business some
day.
Elmer Morra is a motorcycle dealer
in Pittsburgh. Pa. Originally from Wash-
ington, Pa., he started riding in 1946
and two years later, 1918, entered the
ranks of professional racers.
Motorcycles arc not only a business
but also his hobby and in competition
road racing is his choice.
Elmer is 37, married to the former
Emily Grady of Pittsburgh and they
have a daughter Lisa and son Elmer, Jr.
No. 44x Hershell D. Keeter
Hurshell or DeWayne Keeter as he is
better known, lives in Ojai. Calif, where
he works as a mechanic.
DeWayne, who is 23, started to ride
Sportsman competition in 1961 riding
mainly scrambles. In 1965 he made the
switch to professional racing and has a
preference for mile tracks.
No. 85 Joseph L. Messaros
Joe Messaros lives in Springfield, Ohio
where he works as a tool and die maker.
In 1955 Joe started riding Sportsman
events, mostly scrambles. After two years,
1957. he moved to the professional cir-
cuit where his preference is road racing.
Joe feels that when he hangs up his
handlebars he would like to race cars.
He is 29 years old and has three chil-
dren. Joe Jr.. Jess and Mark.
