Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad Co Stock Certificate Tax Stamp.
This is an interesting stock certificate.  While I was reading the back I noticed the Certificate was assigned to Frederick Ayers.  The name sounded familiar but I didn't know why.  I checked the name and he was the brother of Dr.  James Cook Ayer, once one of America's wealthiest patent medicine related businessmen in the country. Frederick Ayer was also the Father- in- law of General George Patton.
Just a little history I came across and thought I'd share.
The Certificate does have, what looks like, some kind of adhesive of the left edge.  There are several folds in the paper.  Two from top to bottom where the Certificate had been folded in thirds. There is also fold to the top left corner from about 4" down to about 4" across the top.
There is also an interesting tax stamp on the back.  Interesting Certificate with a little trace to some known/famous people.
