Description

You are bidding on a Fiber Microtome 202-B made by Micro Instruments, Cambridge, Mass.  The microtome has been used but is in good working shape.  The sample plate locks firmly in place and the piston advances smoothly to raise the embedded sample.   To use, you bundle the fibers or hairs to be thin-sectioned in a cotton wad and squeeze it in place.  Using collodion or clear nail polish you form a film and you advance the shaft slightly so you can make a thin cross-section with an ordinary single edge razor.  The section can be studied under the light microscope. If you need to know the cross-section of a carpet fiber or pigment granule distribution in hair this is the go-to tool.
I will firmly and carefully pack the microtome so it arrives in the same great shape I shipped it in.  Because of the weight, I’m shipping USPS medium flat rate for .00.
