    Description

    This is a
vintage original 11x14 in. US lobby card
from the classic 1920's silent film western romance,
    3 BAD MEN
, released in 1926 by the Fox Film Corporation and
    directed by John Ford
. Suggested by the novel "Over the Border," by Herman Whitaker, three outlaws (Lou Tellegen, Tom Santschi, J. Farrell MacDonald) come to the aid of a young girl (Olive Borden) after her father is killed. The cast includes George O'Brien, Frank Campeau, Priscilla Bonner, Otis Harlan, Phyllis Haver, George Harris, Alec B. Francis, and Jay Hunt.
The image features a great western image depicting pretty Lee Carleton (
    Olive Borden
) with her "3 Godfathers" as she talks with "Bull" Stanley (
    Tom Santschi
    ) while Mike Costigan (
    J. Farrell MacDonald
) looks at her from behind and Layne Hunter (
    Lou Tellegen
) listens as well. The open western landscape depicts snow-covered mountains in the background with the quartet's horse-drawn coach nearby. The border artwork at the right depicts a shot of the film's star,
    George O'Brien
(as Dan O'Malley), riding his horse. This vintage original lobby card is unrestored in near-fine condition with a 2 in. long by 1 in. wide area of paper loss on the bottom of the left border and a 0.75 in. vertical tear on the center of the top border with a tiny nick to the right of it along the top edge. There are light signs of toning along the right edge. There are no pinholes, other tears, stains, writing, or other flaws and the rich color tints are fresh and vibrant without any signs of fading.
Original 1926 release lobby cards for this film are scarce
and this particular lobby card depicts all 5 of the film's main characters. This card presents very well when seen in person.
    3 Bad Men
is considered one of John Ford's greatest silent epics. The film had inspired the title for Akira Kurosawa's 1958 film,
Three Bad Men in a Hidden Fortress
    , simply known as
    The Hidden Fortress
in the rest of the world. The film was shot over a fifteen-month period in 1925 and 1926. During filming, three of the actresses involved (Olive Borden, Priscilla Bonner, and Grace Gordon) became ill with a form of paratyphoid and had to be taken to the hospital. The shooting locations for the film included the desert outside of Victorville, California and the vicinity of Jackson Hole, Wyoming (Borden described the main Wyoming location at the foot of the Tetons as sixty-five miles from the end of the railroad line at Victor, Idaho).
