Peterborough Railroad. Stock issued December 16, 1873 at Nashua, New Hampshire. Incorporated July 7, 1866 in the State of New Hampshire
. Red company seal lower left. Serial No. 290 was issued to Joseph B. McQuesten for 35 shares of capital stock (0 per share = ,500). Hand signed by company president James Scott and treasurer T. H. Wood. Certificate is about 6.5” x 7.5.” Black print on cream-colored paper.
The Peterborough Railroad was chartered in 1866 in the State of New Hampshire. Peterborough, New Hampshire is located in Hillsborough County along the Contoocook River, about 38 miles west of Manchester and 72 miles northwest of Boston. The town of Peterborough is drained by the Contoocook River and its tributaries, Nubanusit Brook and Otter Brook. The town is part of the Merrimack River watershed. The Peterborough Railroad and its assets were purchased in 1945 by the Boston and Maine Railroad, when it was dissolved.
