Description
This is a lacquered fountain pen with a smooth and shiny surface created through repeated lacquering and polishing, using Wajima-nuri and maki-e techniques to embed recesses (grooves) in the body. The border, lid stopper, and tail stopper are finished with colored urushi, mother-of-pearl inlays, and pure gold powder maki-e to resemble jewelry "Bijou".
The fountain pen itself is aptly called "Bijou" by Takuya Hino, a Wajima-nuri maki-e craftsman, who painstakingly lacquered and maki-e lacquered each piece by hand. The lid metal ring with an original design has a serial number and is equipped with Sailor's original large 21-karat gold nib.
