Description

I carried out a debit transaction on it just now to verify its operation, and all aspects from debiting the card-owner's account, to issuing a receipt to me, worked as they should. I'll see those funds in my account in 1-2 business days, while for an additional fee users can get funds transfer to happen instantly.
The scratching at the right of the second gray pane is where the owner had an old password written in with permanent ink. It took some time rubbing it with an adhesive solvent to get it off, marring the surface there.
If some time passes there may be an update for the reader; once paired you may get this orange banner at the screen top showing the update and its progress.
The original user is a household member. I set up a new account with Square in order to test what happens when a new owner uses it, to predict the likelihood of success should you become the next owner. I was able to pair this reader to my new account, getting the notice that the reader is ready to go. The two steps I didn't do was linking a bank account and carrying out a transaction, since getting this far led me to believe that a person buying it on ebay would run into no obstruction in using it. Square doesn't design these units to have multiple users, but if there is a snag along the way, regardless of how many months have passed, you're welcome to return it with the shipping paid by me.
I wasn't able to verify the operation of the magstripe readers, apparently because their use is restricted to previous-generation magstripe cards. I was swiping through the readers the magstripe on cards that also have non-contact chips in them, and the app requested that I do an insertion instead of a swipe as you see at left. I got the same feedback with three different cards.
Two points that suggest that the magstripe readers' operation is normal is the response I get to plugging the readers into the headphone jack: that action brought up the prompt "Swipe card to charge", or something similar; when I remove them I get an overlay notice reading "Magstripe disconnected".
The pad at upper left is a block of black foam with an additional swipe module for magstripe cards, identical to the first module at the left in the lineup in the photo above that plugs into the headphone cable jack.
Handling time:
This page notes that handling time is 2 business days, though I chose that as a safe setting that will cover exceptionally busy times. Chances are good that I'll ship this unit out the same day or the next, including Saturdays.
Following is a duplicate of the non-searchable text embedded in the image at top in the form of colorless text data that accommodates item searches within ebay:
The Square Reader allows the user to accept credit cards physically, charging the card owner a chosen amount.
I don’t yet know anything about this device. This one was used a few times, but the owner found that the range of cards at that time wasn’t broad enough to suit, so it was taken out of use after a few tries.
In the upper part of the boundary scratches are visible, though they’re not visible when handling the unit ordinarily.
