    Description

The Black Room (1940 Reissue) Original Lobby Card-- Boris Karloff Early HORROR!
This is an original lobby card from the 1940 reissue of the 1935 horror classic.  Fantastic scene-- very, very scary with beautiful damsels in distress!  Great ART!  Very hard to find.  There was even a scandal surrounding the film when photos of a menacing Karloff looming over actress Katherine DeMille in something like bondage (ropes etc.) surfaced.  No such scenes in the movie.  "Why they were shot, and used as publicity to represent this film, is anybody's guess. It has been proposed that Karloff had a clause in his studio contract (verbal or written) that required such subjugation scenes to accept a role, and that they compromised and offered him such publicity shots since they couldn't work them into the movie itself. This would appear very plausible as, upon close examination of Karloff's career, indeed such scenes can be found in his every film post (and including) Frankenstein."  (from IMDB)  Makes this card so perfect for him
