The Miracle Man 1919, the silent crime faith healing romantic melodrama, Directed by George Loane Tucker and based on the Play by George M. Cohan, is about a gang of crooks who hide out in a small town where they find a local faith healer, who happens to be blind and use him to swindle people. This was one of Lon Chaney's first great successes, if not, his very first as he plays the gang leader, nicknamed "The Frog," because he can dislocate his limbs and uses that ability to appear to be crippled, and then has the faith healer "cure" him for gullible crowds.
**
This lost Lon Chaney film is one of the first, if not the very first film to show his astounding abilities to distort his body. This beautiful Title Card which shows the entire cast, depicts the pivotal scene in the film in which gang members Chaney and co-star Thomas Meighan see that the blind priest, Joseph Dowling, really is a miracle healer.
THE MIRACLE MAN was the top-grossing U.S. film of 1919.
In 1921, Photoplay magazine conducted a poll from readers as to what the best movie made yet has been. This movie ranked number 1, outdoing Charles Chaplin's The Kid (1921) and D.W. Griffith's Broken Blossoms (1919).
Believed to be lost, except for one scene included in Paramount's "Movie Milestones" series, as well as a segment in The House that Shadows Built. (1931).

TODD FEIERTAG is a name that is synonymous with Vintage Movie Posters since he's been buying and selling them for 58 years!! On MARCH 1, 1997 he conducted a single owner sale of his own material at Sotheby's(the largest auction house in the World) in New York which was the most successful movie poster auction of all time. Many of the rare posters were the finest examples in existence and/or the only known examples. Included in that auction was an original one sheet for THE MUMMY(1932) which sold for 3,500.00, more than doubling the previous high record for a poster. An astounding amount at that time and an auction record which stood for almost eighteen years.
