Vintage original 11x14 in. US lobby card, near-fine condition.
The silent film melodrama
THE VIRGIN
, which is set in Spain and based upon the poem
The Virgin of San Blas
by Julio Sabello, was released in 1924 by the Truart Film Corporation and
directed by Alvin J. Neitz
. The film features an all-star cast including Kenneth Harlan, Dorothy Revier, Alice Lake, Walter Hiers, Sam De Grasse and Cesare Gravina. The image features a close shot of the film's two leads,
Kenneth Harlan
(as David Kent) and
Dorothy Revier
(as Maía Valdez, the virgin of San Blas) in an embrace. The border artwork depicts a different character from the film and this card depicts actress
Alice Lake
(but the caption was printed incorrectly and credits "Rosa Rosanova as The Spanish Innkeeper").
It is unrestored in near-fine condition with a 0.25 in. diagonal crease on the top left corner; a tiny bit of wear on the tip of the top and bottom right corners; a very small chip with two pinholes above it on the bottom left corner; a thin vertical line of foxing along the edge of the left border; and six pinholes in various portions of the image area. The color tinting on this set of lobby cards is exquisite and features deep rich colors, all of which are complimented by a bright yellow outer border around the image.
