more rigid than a traditional steel shank. While in the cut the steel shank deflects (pushes-off), even more so when extended beyond 3:1 (L/D) and when threading, machining difficult materials or interrupted cuts. This often results in poor surface finish, size variation, poor tool life and reduced machine utilization. The rigid shank minimizes vibration which preserves tool life. Less vibration improves tool life, reducing insert usage, offset adjustments and insert indexes. Less vibration also allows for parameter adjustments which optimize cycle times.
