    Description

Up for sale is a set of two original movie lobby cards for Gunga Din, a 1939 American adventure film from RKO Radio Pictures directed by George Stevens and starring Cary Grant, Victor McLaglen and Douglas Fairbanks Jr., loosely based on the 1890 poem of the same name by Rudyard Kipling combined with elements of his 18888 short story collection: Soldiers Three. The film is about three British sergeants and Gunga Din, their native bhisti (water bearer), who fight the Thuggee, and Indian murder cult, in colonial British India. The supporting cast features Joan Fontaine, Eduardo Ciannelli, and in the title role, Sam jaffe. The epic film was written by Joel Sayre and Fred Guiol from a storyline by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur, with uncredited contributions by Lester Cohen, John Colton, William Faulkner, Vincent Lawrence, Dudley Nichols, and Anthony Veiller. The cards were published by the Consolidated Film Industries Inc., Photogelatine Division, Fort Lee, N. J.
In 1999, Gung Din was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the Unite States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.
These two lobby cards are 14" long by 11" tall.  Both color lobby cards show battle scenes with the British Scottish Highland Regimental soldiers dressed in kilts. The card with the Indian soldiers in their turbans running toward the foreground, the soldier on the front right has one exposed leg that didn't get darkened probably because wit was supposed to have remained covered by the puffy white pants. Also include is the original brown craft paper envelope with all the needed information printed on it. The bottom of the envelope was torn open.
