    Description

Vintage original 11x14 in. U.S. lobby card
from the lost silent film melodrama
    THE LIGHT THAT FAILED
, released in 1923 by Paramount Pictures and
    directed by George Melford
.Based upon the story by Rudyard Kipling, Percy Marmont portrays an artist who becomes famous for his wartime sketches and returns to London after WWI and ultimately strives to finish his masterpiece before going blind from a sabre wound to his eye.
This art-themed lobby card features a dramatic moment from the film as artist Dick Heldar (
    Percy Marmont
) directs his anger towards the street urchin-turned-model Bessie Broke (
    Jacqueline Logan
) while she poses for him in his studio. The designer of this lobby card made quite a bit of effort to ensure that the image of Miss Logan in the painting looks exactly like her. This vintage original lobby card is unrestored and in good- condition only with a 1.25 in. horizontal chip, signs of wear and some light small stains on the top left corner; two areas of light wear on the edge of the top border with one pinhole between them beneath the top edge; one pinhole in the other 3 corners; a 0.5 in. wide vertical dust shadow along the right border; a 1 in. and two 0.5 in. diagonal creases on the bottom right corner, the lowest of which is fragile but intact; a 0.5 in. diagonal crease on the bottom left corner; a small stain along the left edge in the bottom third; two pinholes in the center of the left border; and light random surface dirt in and just above the bottom border, primarily in the right half of the card. The color tints are fresh and vibrant without any signs of fading.
    The Light That Failed
is a lost silent film, as no prints are known to exist.
